Nothing Better than some Fishing Therapy

I’m missing my boat these days.  It’s been a mental grind here, but I’ve been keeping my head up.  MERS (Middle Eastern Respiratory Disease) has been sweeping Korea.  It has been an unreal experience, people are walking the streets with masks on and the death toll is over twenty already.  Because of the outbreak, two of the five KSA tournaments have been cancelled.  However, I have been able to get out on the water and get some fishing therapy.

I found a buddy, Sargent Major James Moore, to fish the KSA open with.  One of the best parts of this sport is sharing my passion with others.  He had never caught a bass, but by the next day he was whooping me four to one with a spinnerbait.  James was able to head back to the States and used that time wisely - to buy fishing tackle.  He is a generous, but sneaky, guy.  He got a hold of my truck keys while I was working and left a new lifejacket for me on the front seat.  We had to wear these terrible bulky pink lifejackets in our last tournament.  Glad we don't have to embarass ourselves again!

We only had one prefish day, but we almost took the tournament.  One three pound fish would have made the difference.  With two hours left in the day, we ran out of gas and time to fish.  A couple of guys from the tournament gave us a hand and got us back just in time to weigh our fish.  So many of the people I have met here in South Korea have been great.  It just goes to show that fishermen are good wherever you go.

Fishing has been my reprieve, but I haven't been able to do nearly enough of it lately.  Work has been crazy, we are short staffed and have been making up for it working overtime.  I'm seeing some good news on the horizon.  I'm up for some promotions both in the US and  overseas.  But, all I can think about is just getting home and sitting in my boat.  I don't even have to be fishing, just sitting in my boat on my home water.  Although I couldn't spend the Fourth of July back home, I was able to spend it doing something I love, at the auto club blasting my new sound system.  When they guys put it in they said you will win the competition hands down.  It is definitely the baddest fishing rig in South Korea!
