Winter in Washington

I’ve managed to stay busy and somewhat dry here in Washington so far this winter.  We’ve had some snow the past couple weeks with some places in the area getting up to a foot.  We’ve even had a couple two hour delays for work because of the weather.  Despite the winter weather conditions we’ve been experiencing here, I’m still managing to get my line wet from the shore.  The boat is still down in California and with the weather it’s been difficult to orchestrate getting it up here with me.  I’m at the point now where I’m looking into renting a U-Haul truck to drive down and pick up my boat.  With the season right around the corner I’m ready to get her back out on the water.

We had a club meeting earlier this month and I found out that our first event here in Washington doesn’t start until April.  I think I’m going to go crazy if I don’t fish something before then.  I’ve still been looking into more local events, but haven’t found too much.  Washington is largely dominated with the trout and salmon fishermen so bass get passed over some.

The first FLW Costa event at Lake Havasu happened and I just missed out on that one.  With everything still in limbo I wasn’t able to fish it.  It’s not only been crazy weather, but things have been crazy at work and with getting settled in here.  I missed Havasu, but I will be fishing the final two Costa events at the Delta and Clear Lake later on this year.  I’m very much looking forward to those two as they are a couple of my favorite fisheries in the country.

Bass Pro Shops here in Tacoma are having their Spring Classic here this weekend and I am lucky enough to be involved with that.  I used to be a rep with Socol and did a lot of stuff at Bass Pro in the past.  It’s always a fun time there and it’s nice spending the weekend with other angler’s.

On another note, my wife has started pouring my favorite plastic worm and they are turning out great.  It’s a mold that I bought from D&M baits after they discontinued it.  This worm has put so many big bass in my boat in the past that I’m so excited to be out there using it again.  The worm itself looks pretty simple, but there is something really special about it.  For some reason it just out fishes so many others.  We’ve got one color we’re doing to that I guarantee you no one else has seen before.  I’m very excited about it and my wife is too.  She’s really enjoying pouring them and even has been getting some pointers from one of our special friends and oldest sponsors that have a successful company as well.

For now, we just have to get through this winter and get everything in line.  Come April, we’ll be ready to hit the ground running!
